The Ladies' Smoking Room Staircase, which, as the name suggests, originally led to the ladies smoking room.

This was a bit of first in a British Hotel in Victorian times as it was both progressive and somewhat scandalous – the idea that women would have a designated space to smoke, let alone one that required is own palatial staircase was well ahead of it's time.

Moving forward to the modern era, the staircase became a visual icon of 90s pop culture, featuring in both the film Batman Begins and the in the iconic film clip intro to the debut Spice Girls song, Wannabe.
