Overview

Gilles Cenazandotti doesn’t just depict endangered animals; he reimagines them as strange hybrids of nature and waste, built entirely from the plastic we leave behind.

His journey began as a simple habit: walking the beaches of his island home in Corsica. Not in search for shells or sea glass, but for whatever the sea decided to send back. Collecting items such as Lighters, flip-flops, sunscreen bottles, even the odd motorcycle part.

Instead of cutting or reshaping these finds, he fits them together like a jigsaw, building out the anatomy of animals piece-by-piece.

The result is Future Bestiary. A collection of life-sized sculptures that somehow manage to be playful and deeply unsettling. You’ll find representations of a polar bear, a baboon, a hyena, each formed entirely from the kind of plastic waste that threatens their very survival.

What's compelling about Gilles work is that he doesn’t disguise or alter the materials. That toothbrush is still very much a toothbrush, and the bottle caps, toy wheels, hair combs. They stay exactly as they were found. This intentional choice creates a striking irony. These synthetic skins reflect the animals they endanger, giving us what he calls a “trompe l’oeil of a modified reality.”
