Project Information

Sculpting the sky with thread and light.

Echelman didn’t initially set out to redefine public art or become a sculptor. However, a serendipitous moment in a fishing village in India, where she observed nets billow and breathe, sparked an idea. This idea would eventually soar above cities around the world.

She recognized the potential in softness, motion, and materials that typically don’t receive monumental treatment.

Her aerial sculptures are huge, woven forms suspended between buildings and feel like they belong to the sky. They shift with the wind, glow with projected light and invite people to pause, look up and feel something.

They’re not just installations; they’re experiences. Echelman calls it “radical softness,” and it’s a surprisingly powerful way to reshape how we interact with our cities.
